Sequoia
Sequoia National Park is adjacent to Kings Canyon National Park, and the two are actually co-managed by the NPS as a single unit, so it took no time at all to get to this next park on our adventure. We started in the Giant Forest and were blown away with the enormous size of the General Sherman Tree, the largest tree in the world by volume! Walking along the Congress Trail to see even more humongous trees was one of my favorite parts of the visit, especially since the sun was peaking through the forest and offered sublime lighting for my photos. After getting our fill of giant sequoia trees, Rose and I headed over to Moro Rock and hiked up the steep staircase to get to the top of this huge formation, where sprawling views of the Sierra Nevada mountains and the valley below stretch out before you. Next, we went on short hikes through the pleasant Crescent Meadow and to Bobcat Point for more epic views where we could even spot Moro Rock from another angle across the valley! We ended the day with a fantastic sunset sitting on Beetle Rock, which overlooks the San Joaquin Valley. This park has so much more to offer than just the giant trees, so make sure you give yourself enough time to explore! I’d love to come back one day and visit Mount Whitney and the other areas of the park we didn’t make it to.
